New Jersey employees are now eligible to receive Family Leave Insurance benefits!  Benefits may be used for up to six weeks to bond with a child or care for a family member with a serious health condition.  A guide to New Jersey Family Leave Insurance will be posted on our website soon.  (For more information click here or call the Division of Temporary Disability Insurance at (609) 292-7060.)

Domestic Workers' Bill of Rights.    The New York State legislature is considering a law that would guarantee basic labor protections to nannies, housekeepers and caregivers for the elderly, who have been excluded from labor laws for decades.  Valuing caregiving means valuing the work of those who provide care to our families in our homes.

The Work-Family Dilemma:
A Better Balance Policy Solutions for All New Yorkers

On February 1-2, 2007,  A Better Balance co-hosted a summit with the Barnard Center for Research on Women, bringing together researchers and advocates, representatives from labor and business, and elected officials in New York City, to discuss work/family issues with a focus on class.  From this summit emerged certain themes and a consensus around the need for a comprehensive work/family policy advocacy agenda for New York City.
