Joining San Francisco, in March, 2008, the District of Columbia passed a law requiring most employers in the District to provide paid sick days.   The  "Accrued Sick and Safe Leave Act" also requires employers to provide time off to deal with domestic violence issues.  For more information, contact the DC Employment Justice Center which fought to obtain this law, www.dcejc.org .
