 The New York City Council is poised to pass the Paid Sick Time Act .  The bill has 39 co-sponsors and broad grassroots support.   Click here to urge Council Speaker Christine Quinn to take action.   

 On her webpage, fill out your name and address; click "General Welfare" on the issue drop down menu; and feel free to tailor and send one of the following messages.

"As a New York City resident, I'm concerned that over 900,000 New York City workers don't get a single paid sick day.  I'm writing to urge you to support the Earned Paid Sick Time bill now." 

"As a parent, I'm concerned that 60% of low-income New York City public school parents don't get a single paid sick day.  I'm writing to urge you to support the Earned Paid Sick Time bill now." 

 "As a restaurant-goer, I'm concerned that 84% of New York City restaurant workers don't get a single paid sick day.  I'm writing to urge you to support the Earned Paid Sick Time bill now."

The Healthy Families Act (H.R. 2460 / S. 1152) guarantees workers the right to earn up to 7 paid sick days a year to address their own health needs or to care for a sick family member.

The New York City Council is considering a bill to ban discrimination in employment based on a person’s status as a family caregiver.  Voice your support for this important legislation!  

* Sign a Petition to Protect Family Caregivers from Workplace Discrimination in New York City! 

 

The New York State Legislature is considering a bill to guarantee Paid Family Leave for workers in the state.  

 * Contact your representative and senator to tell them to support Paid Family Leave! 

 

 Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Senator Jeff Merkley (R-OR) recently introduced the Breastfeeding Promotion Act (H.R. 2819/S.1244).   The bill supports employers and nursing moms by providing tax incentives to businesses that provide lacation rooms; requiring employers to make reasonable efforts to provide time and space to express milk; protecting breastfeeding women from discrimination in the workplace; and allowing families to deduct the cost of breastfeeding equipment on their taxes.
