Carmen joined A Better Balance in February 2023 as a legal fellow in New Orleans. She received her J.D. from Tulane Law School, where she earned a certificate specializing in civil law. Carmen served as a student attorney in the Juvenile Law Clinic, Vice President of Tulane’s If When How chapter, and was an active member of the Tulane Latinx Law Student Association. During law school, Carmen interned with the ACLU of Louisiana’s Justice Lab project and the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal. Prior to joining A Better Balance, Carmen worked as a public defender in Orleans Parish.
Carmen is a San Diego native and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and cum laude from the University of California San Diego. At A Better Balance, Carmen will focus on ensuring Louisianans, and all Southerners, have access to paid family and medical leave and paid sick leave.
