We have seen great momentum at the state level towards passing policies that provide workers with paid leave to care for themselves and their loved ones. Ensuring that both policymakers and workers can understand these laws is a critical part of our educational work. As part of this effort, A Better Balance is excited to announce the launch of our new interactive overview of paid family and medical leave laws

This new resource provides a customizable comparison of every statewide paid family and medical leave law in the U.S. Just like our interactive overview of paid sick time laws in the U.S., workers can use the overview to get a better understanding of the paid family and medical leave program in their state and advocates can use the overview to compare key policy components of every paid family and medical leave program throughout the country.

This interactive resource captures all of the same information as our previous comparison chart, including the option to download the entire database into one centralized document, but allows users to conduct an easier, tailored search for information. For example, using the search page, users can search by state and sort by issues related to each law, including which family members are covered under any of the paid family and medical leave programs in the country, what state programs allow self-employed workers to opt into coverage, what the maximum weekly benefit is for any of the state programs, and so much more.

We are hopeful that this new interactive overview of paid family and medical leave laws will be used as a tool for workers to understand their paid family and medical leave rights as well as to support advocates around the country to enact comprehensive paid family and medical leave laws. Please contact Jared Make or Cassandra Gomez for more information about the interactive overview.
