Recently, New York’s Department of Labor began accepting applications for the state’s groundbreaking Excluded Worker Fund. The Excluded Worker Fund is a $2.1 billion fund established to provide monetary relief for certain workers who lost income between March 27, 2020 and April 1, 2021 and were excluded from receiving benefits through state unemployment insurance and federal pandemic unemployment assistance. For more detailed eligibility criteria, click here

The Excluded Worker Fund will provide eligible workers with a one-time payment of $15,600 or $3,200, depending on the documentation that workers are able to submit to establish their eligibility. For more information on what documentation is required and regarding the fund in general, click here

The Excluded Worker Fund, which is the first of its kind in the nation, would not have been possible without the commitment and advocacy of the Fund for Excluded Workers Coalition, of which A Better Balance is a proud member. All workers should be protected during this unprecedented crisis. Applications can be accessed through the New York Department of Labor’s website here.
