The following is a statement from A Better Balance President Inimai Chettiar:
“It is an outrage that, through executive order, the Trump Administration has gutted key measures that protect federal contract workers from discrimination and abandoned efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in the federal workforce and beyond.
Federal contract workers, of which there are millions, form the backbone of our essential programs and infrastructure. Everyone should have the ability to come to work knowing they’re protected from hatred, discrimination or bigotry—but the new Administration has chosen to send the opposite message.
In a separate executive order, the Trump Administration announced that it will require federal employees to return to the office five days a week. These steps are actively hostile to women and caregivers, especially women of color, who too often face discrimination and harassment as they balance work with their health and family caregiving responsibilities. The consequences of such discrimination can be lasting financial insecurity. Our federal workforce deserves better.
Make no mistake: federal contract workers still have the right to be free from discrimination. We will work to ensure we do not turn back the clock on these essential protections.”
