(New York, NY) The following statement can be attributed to A Better Balance Co-Founder and Co-President Dina Bakst:
“New data from the Bipartisan Policy Center shows one reason women are leaving the workforce: pregnancy discrimination—an unacceptable reality in America in 2022. It’s unconscionable that nearly 1 in 4 mothers have considered leaving an employer out of fear they wouldn’t be accommodated or would be discriminated against while pregnant and that 1 in 5 mothers say they have experienced pregnancy discrimination in the workplace. Through our free work-family legal helpline, we know firsthand that when pregnant and postpartum workers are forced off the job, it can snowball into lasting economic disadvantage for their families. The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act is the legislative fix we need to close glaring gaps in the law and promote equal opportunity for pregnant workers and mothers, so they can stay healthy and attached to the workforce. The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act is primed and ready for passage, and Senator Schumer must bring it to a vote without delay.”
