On February 4, the Senate voted to confirm Pam Bondi as Attorney General. The Attorney General has the power to enforce anti-discrimination and worker protections against state and local governments, as well as defend the PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act and Pregnant Workers Fairness Act.
The following is a statement from A Better Balance President Inimai Chettiar:
“From meeting basic pregnancy needs, to challenging IVF treatments, to emergency care, and abortion – a woman’s health is her personal right. And she should never have to be forced to choose between her job or her health. We sincerely hope Attorney General Bondi stands on the right side of upholding the law and protecting women and families. The reality is, this means standing up for the most vulnerable – including low wage, hourly, and shift workers, and Black, Brown, and LGBTQ communities who remain the most disproportionately impacted. If Attorney General Bondi fails to do so, then make no mistake: We are ready to fight in court, every step of the way, in every district and courtroom necessary, to protect workplace rights and other rights that women and other marginalized communities depend on.”
